For Sale - an amazing high grade uncirculated 1918 20 Centesimi Italian coin minted during WWI using an 1895 20 Centesimi planchet. Due to massive shortages in metals during World War I, the Italian government was forced to reuse 1895 planchets in order to produce new 20 centimes coins for circulation. Many of these coins were pulled from circulation and very few examples remain in such high grade. Moreover, this particular coin was minted obverse to obverse and reverse to reverse with the 1895 planchet and clearly shows the date (1895) on the obverse as well as the denomination of the reverse. Of all the overstruck coins minted during this period, this one stands out for it's great eye appeal and the fact it retains much of its original mint luster having escaped being removed from circulation nearly 100 yrs ago.This coin is an excellent example of a very turbulent time in world history and stands out as a very unique and rare high grade example of an error coin with fantastic eye appeal.
