JAPANESE STERLING BOX IRIS NATHAN & HAYES, CHESTER, 1908 42 OZ A monumental Japanese style English sterling silver iris scholar's box. We are selling our entire 40 year collection of hand crafted Meiji and Meiji inspired silver. More than 250 examples. From Nathan & Hayes, Chester 1908. In rectangular form. All over hand raised iris set along gentle stream. Flowers in exceptionally high relief above all over hand hammered surfaces. This was crafted 105 years ago by British silversmiths. It cannot be distinguished from Meiji silver of the period. As a result, it is one of a kind. The box is solid sterling silver. It is not weighted. There is no wood lining. Hallmarked as shown. English iris along gentle water scholar's box is 10 by 5 inches and weighs 42 standard ounces. In fine condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. The brilliant floral retain their original crisp, vibrant detail, no split flowers as is common. Cover closes firm. Cover slightly pushed in, this is double wall construction hence this is common, base with shallow bumps. Massachusetts residents are subject to sales tax.
