Pure beryllium BIG cylindrical block 1776 gram Brush Wellman research grade - $9,500 - (Chicago, IL)
Large cylindrical block of pure beryllium, 1776 gram. The cylindrical block is 6.025" diameter, 2.025" height. The markings, as shown in pictures, are " BWI 8848 Brush Spec. N 50 C WARNING BERYLLIUM"It was purchased in ~1966 from Brush Wellman which was known for beryllium production. The block was bought for a physics research project, but was never used and stored in safe until now. If one do a simple density calculation, it is >99.9% pure block with a few percent uncertainty comes from the exact shape of the cylinder. I will answer all question as accurate as possible. Museum quality. The most important reasons for the development of beryllium metal as an industrial material has been its nuclear characteristics and hardness. Examples of applications based on this properties are block and heat shields, guidance systems parts, gyroscopes, stable platforms, accelerometers and mirrors (in this case beryllium is used as a rigid carrier for a highly polished surface). More sophisticated current applications of beryllium are shingles for cladding the capsule used in the Gemini program, the inner stage joining element for stages of the Minuteman missile, and skin panels for the Agena booster. Aerospacial applications have been one of the driving forces for the industrial production of beryllium. All offers will be considered.
