MARINERS "ASTROLABE" SHIP WRECK TREASURE from ATOCHA - $675 - (Ottawa, ON)

This is a solid brass Astrolabe, face is an exact copy of one found in 1985 on the famous ship wreck, "ATOCHA" It is 6 ½ inches in diameter and weighs 6.5 lbs. The outer face perimeter of the Limb has been modified for ease of casting. This Astrolabe was reproduce as an experiment to study old manufacturing techniques. Aside of the main body of the Astrolabe all other parts are exact copies of original parts. Original Astrolabe that was found on the ATOCHA, is registered as type 1a with the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, England. Dated 1614, and made in Portugal by "Y DYAS" it was officially approved by the "CASA de CONTRACION of SEVILLE" by two stamp located on the Ballast as depicted..
