1853 Antique Reversible Jacquard Coverlet Signed D. Cosley - $600 - (Indianapolis, IN)

Four color (red, olive, navy and cream) Reversible Jacquard Coverlet, wool and cotton. Signed by D. Cosley 1853, Xenia, Greene Co, Ohio. The pattern is a combination of rose medallions, starbursts with a fruit and flower basket border. The size is 82" wide, 89" long with a small cotton fringe on the bottom. The top edge is finished with no fringe. Dennis Cosley was a well known weaver born in Virginia in 1816. He learned his trade in PA and established himself in Xenia, Greene Co, Ohio in 1847. He died in 1904. His work is in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago. The coverlet is in good condition for it's age. There are no holes, however there are a few spots and some yellowing. There are a few places where there is deterioration of the wool on the pattern. There is some slight unraveling on the side edges. Please see photos for spots and areas of wear. To my knowledge it has not been cleaned. There is no odor and there have been no repairs to the coverlet. Please email me if I can answer any questions about this item.
