Torquay (pronounced, tor-'kee) is adapted from the shell design of a transfer-printed earthenware plate, ca. 1820 currently in the Winterthur collection. Each shell pictured in the pattern faithfully depicts a real one in shades of deep blue and milky cream. ImportedMottahedeh Torquay dinnerware is an interpretation of the Winterthur Museum Torquay pattern. The original blue and white Swansea pattern was named after the elegant resort town of Torquay on the southern coast of England.
