This is a rare November 22nd, 1943 program (playbill) from the two-week, Pre-Broadway engagement of the JOHN VAN DRUTEN comedy "THE VOICE OF THE TURTLE" at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (The production would open December 8th, 1943 at New York's Morosco Theatre, move to the Martin Beck Theatre on October 15th, 1947 and the Hudson Theatre on November 25th, 1947, playing a total of 1557 performances.) ..... The play starred MARGARET SULLAVAN and ELLIOTT NUGENT and featured AUDREY CHRISTIE ..... CREDITS: Book by JOHN VAN DRUTEN ("Bell, Book and Candle", "I Am a Camera", "The Voice of the Turtle", "There's Always Juliet", "Old Acquaintance", "I Remember Mama"); Sets designed by STEWART CHANEY; Staged by JOHN VAN DRUTEN; Produced by ALFRED de LIAGRE, Jr. ..... DETAILS: The four page playbill measures 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" inches, is printed on a light brown newsprint stock and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and vintage advertising, but no cast photos or bios ..... CONDITION: With the exception of slight discoloration, a small tear in the left side and some paper loss at the bottom edge (shown in the second scanned image), this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
